Jews against Zionism

The aim of the page is to facilitate access to Jewish protests against Israeli political ideology and practice.

Since antiquity, and especially since the demise of classical rationalism in the Christian Dark Ages, Judaism, from its traditionally secularist inclination, has been a haven for opponents of transcendalism, the root cause of political reaction in all cultures. Students of Nazism have argued that it was precisely the progressive role of European Jewry that elicited the visceral antisemitism which made the genocide possible. The crudely regressive Israeli state ideology (Zionism) and inevitably unjust practice desecrate the memory of the victims of the Holocaust.

Zionism is supported among Jews world-wide by an "infinitesimal minority" only (Sternhell). The ideology has always had its prophetic objectors; more recently, literate observers of the political scene have been awakened by the "revisionist" Israeli-Jewish literature.

It would not be inappropriate to say that Jewish critics of Zionism and of Israel's policies towards the Palestinians are the ones who are upholding the great Jewish tradition of ethical dissent and moral leadership. It also can be argued that Zionist Jews who place power above morality are, in fact, the historical aberration. (Corrigan)
